Balance diet is essential during pregnancy for nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Not every food is safe to eat during pregnancy. Most foods are safe, but some foods are harmful that should not eat on pregnancy period. Paying attention to what pregnant women should not eat and accept certain foods will support a healthy pregnancy and child.

Undercooked Meat:

Undercooked or partially cooked meat should be avoided by pregnant women because of the risk of pollution with coliform bacteria, toxoplasmosis, and salmonella.

Deli Meat and cheeses:

Deli meats cheeses have been known to be contaminated with bacteria names listeria, its influence can be miscarriage. Ability to spread in blood cell is the power of listeria and may infect the baby’s growing, which may be life-threatening. If the question arise by what pregnant women should not eat then must be check the meat and cheese to be heated to steaming to kill those unwanted microorganisms.

Empty Calorie foods:

Eating enough during pregnancy is necessary. But too much empty calorie foods such as cakes, biscuits, cookies and candy should be taken in minimum level. It does include high in sugar and fat and have little nutritional content. So pregnant woman should not eat to take it is a wise decision.

Fish with High Level of Mercury:

Some types of sea fishes contain high levels of mercury should be avoided, or kept to an absolute minimum. Mercury consumed during pregnancy has been affected to delay of baby’s growth and brain damage. Canned, chunk light tuna generally has a lower amount of mercury than other tuna, for this reason, many experts say that tuna should be limited to one serving per week.

Smoked Seafood:

Refrigerated version smoked seafood are not safe. Canned version or shelf-safe smoked seafood is usually acceptable to eat.

 Raw Shellfish:

Bacterial or viral contamination can be affected to use of raw shellfish as food which can cause food poisoning and they should be avoided during pregnancy.

Raw Eggs:

Raw eggs, including any foods that contain raw eggs should be avoided because of risk here is of salmonellosis (salmonella infection). So, pregnant women should not eat raw eggs until its yolks are firm exactly.

Soft Cheeses:

Soft cheese made with unpasteurized milk can contain bacteria called Listeria, which can cause miscarriage. For this reason, it should be avoided when women are with child. All soft non-imported cheeses made with pasteurized milk are safe to eat for pregnant women.

Unpasteurized Milk:

Unpasteurized milk may contain bacteria such as campylobacter is a group of bacteria by includes of coli, listeria, or salmonella germs, which can cause miscarriage. Listeria has ability to spread in blood cell and may infect the baby’s growing, which may be life-threatening. Make sure before drinking that the milk is pasteurized.

Pate:

Unpasteurized refrigerated pates or meat spreads should be avoided because the risk here is also of listeria infection. Canned version, or shelf-safe meat spreads can be eaten.

Caffeine:

Caffeine affects the calcium concentration in pregnant women body. Drinking too much caffeine will also can be related to miscarriages. It can also cause dehydration, calcium loss, and is thought to increase the probability of a child contracting diabetes, increases the heartbeat, burdens the heart and kidney, causes tension and fatigue to both of pregnant woman and baby. So, avoid caffeine during the first trimester is safe for pregnant woman to reduce the likelihood of a miscarriage. In some foods contain caffeine that should avoid to pregnant woman such as brewed coffee, espresso/cappuccino, decaffeinated coffee, brewed tea, iced tea, cola, diet cola, chocolate, cocoa, etc.

Alcohol:

Alcohol has a variety of bad effects on developing baby depending on the dose and frequency. Experts advise no amount of alcohol that is known to be safe in pregnant period, so it would be wise decision to avoid alcohol during pregnancy. It should continue to avoid alcohol during breastfeeding,

Unwashed Vegetables:

Vegetables are safe to eat for pregnant woman but it is harmful when it taken by unwashed condition. There is a parasite in the soil that can be polluted to unborn baby by toxoplasmosis infection which is prohibited to baby’s development. However, it is essential to make sure that vegetables are washed perfectly to avoid potential exposure to toxoplasmosis.

Sugar-rich food:

Some of sugar rich food such as Sugars, Syrups & Sweeteners, Drink Powders & Soft Drinks, Candies & Nougat, Dried Fruit (Apples), Cookies, Cakes & Pies, Cereals (Kellogg’s Honey Smacks), Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt & Milk Shakes (Mint Choc Chip, Light) should be avoid during pregnancy. These products include glucose and the glucose reducing function of the kidney will drops at different levels. Therefore, if the availability of glucose is too high in blood then organ of pregnant women like kidney will have to work at full capacity, which is not good for their health. In that reason, it is recommended to eating sugar-rich foods in reducing level during pregnancy. It should be mentioned that if pregnant women avoid harmful food in her pregnant cycle he can leads a comfort life and their husband can make right choice cloths for pregnant women .

It can seem confusing to know what pregnant women should not eat during pregnancy, but the abovementioned foods must be avoid during pregnancy because pregnancy affects immune system and pregnant woman with unborn baby are more vulnerable for viral infection and spreads foodborne illness by various germs. So, precaution is important about foodborne illnesses that are harmful to pregnant women and interrupt to baby’s growth.
